Plastic Surgery – Boon Or Bane?

The Kardashians are famous for their lavish lifestyles, fashion choices, overflowing wealth and many other reasons; one of which happens to be their cosmetic procedures. Try picking one Kardashian or Jenner who hasn’t undergone a blatantly visible cosmetic procedure and you will fail, with the exception of Kendall Jenner who is obligated to leave herself untouched due to billion dollar contracts with the fashion industry.

If you compare Kylie Jenner’s before and after photos, you can notice many differences to the extent where one wonders if both pictures have captured the same person. Also, every procedure undergone by the Kardashians has gained popularity among the masses which has resulted in people demanding identical procedures from their doctors. So what is this new fad of cosmetic surgery?

Individual body perception and acceptance has always been a topic of discussion due to the fashion industry’s imposition of unrealistic body standards on our society. While accepting one’s body the way it is built is a healthy trend, the need for cosmetic modifications cannot be disregarded or ridiculed either. Plastic surgery can instill enormous amounts of confidence in people and make them more productive and happier in general. People born with facial or aesthetic defects can bury their insecurities forever by submitting to a skilled surgeon who can restore their confidence. Fire attack victims, acid attack victims, rape victims and other people who have suffered terrible mishaps are often shunned by the society for their unnatural appearances, but not anymore!

So, is plastic surgery a boon or bane? If done excessively, it leads to unrealistic body standards which ends up cracking the confidence of mere mortals who religiously bow down to fashion magazine covers. This double edged sword can also help victims and bring back normalcy into their lives as mentioned and this clearly makes plastic surgery a massive boon. So, which end of this sword are you going to pick?
